SUMMER INSTITUTE 2009

JULY 8-31

What is the Summer Institute?

The Ithaca College Summer Institute is a 3-week preview of IC attended yearly by 50 or so pre-freshman who want to enhance their success as first-year students. Ithaca has been offering a summer program since the mid-1960’s with well over 1000 students attending over that time-span. Students attending the Summer Institute come from all parts of the country, live in both rural and urban areas, and have various majors.

Pre-freshman students who attend the Summer Institute engage themselves in an academically intensive experience that will introduce them to college-level classes, evening study hours, collaborative group studies, evening coffee talk discussions, and individual tutoring sessions. Not to mention the exploration of all that Ithaca College and its surrounding city have to offer.

Each year the Summer Institute uses an academic theme to make the summer curriculum more cohesive, thereby allowing the students to have continuity in their classes.  Academic work from those classes is featured in the annual Summer Institute Colloquium.
