Alcohol
According to New York State law, the consumption of alcoholic beverages by students under the age of 21 is illegal. No alcohol is allowed in the residence hall or on campus. Any student found in possession of alcohol on or off campus at any time during the program will be dismissed from the program, which also may result in dismissal from the college.
Distribution of alcohol to students under the age of 21 is a violation of NYS law and College policy.
Behavior that places an individual’s health and safety at risk (i.e. severe intoxication, drinking games, funneling, etc.) is also a violation of College policy.
Automobiles
Students may not bring cars to campus. Students may not ride in private cars without prior authorization. Individual exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Requests for exceptions should be made in writing to Yolanda Clarke, Director Academic Enrichment Services, and a signed waiver of responsibility should be completed and on file.
Bias/Harassment
Bias/Harassment towards a person based on their race, religion, gender, ethnicity/national origin, or sexual orientation will not be tolerated at Ithaca College.
Candles and Incense
Candles and incense may not be burned in residence halls.
Cell Phones
Cell Phones are not to be used during class periods, workshops and/or other Summer Institute activities. Cell phones may only be used only during free periods and/or in the residence halls.
Computers
Personal computers/laptops are permitted during the Summer Institute. Each student is responsible for ALL of his/her belongs/property (computers, iPods, cell phones, etc.).
Cooking
Thermostat controlled heating elements such as coffeepots and popcorn poppers may be used in rooms. Microwaves, toasters, toaster ovens, etc. may not be used.
Damage and Vandalism or Loss
Private Rooms:
Residents are responsible for the condition of his or her room and furnishings, including the inside and outside of the room door. Residents will be held financially responsible for any assessed damage, and may also face disciplinary action for malicious damage.
Common Rooms:
All residents are responsible for the condition of the common areas of their building. Common areas are defined as hallways, lounges, laundry rooms, kitchens, elevators, stairwells, and entryways. If common areas require extra cleaning or repair, or if theft of the college property occurs, all or some residents may be billed for damage. Damages will be charged to either all residents, residents of the floor, or part of the floor depending on the location of the damage. The Program staff will inform the student(s) what and when they will be charged for the damages.
Drugs (Illegal)
All students are expected to adhere to Federal and New York State Laws. The use of marijuana or any other form of illegal drugs on the campus is strictly prohibited. Any student found in possession of illegal drugs, using and/or selling illegal drugs on or off campus at any time during the Summer Institute will be dismissed from the program, which also may result in dismissal from the college.
Facilities on Campus
Students are only allowed into facilities during operating hours (i.e. recreation center, pool area).
Fire Safety
Building Regulations/Codes
During a Fire, Fire Drill, or Emergency Situation
Fireworks are not permitted in Ithaca College residence halls.
Guests
Guests may be permitted on a limited basis. All arrangements must be made with the program staff 48 hours prior to the guest’s arrival. Guests will not be allowed in residence halls and visits may not interfere with program activities or student responsibilities.
Illnesses
Students will provide medical information to the program staff upon arrival. In the event a student becomes ill (non-emergency) he/she can visit the Hammond Health Center. Peer Leaders must be notified if student is too ill to attend class.
Summer hours for the Health Center are 8:00a.m. – 6:00p.m. Monday – Friday (Nursing Staff only)
Leaving Campus
All students must sign out when leaving campus and sign in when they return. Students are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of this policy as outlined in their signed agreement. For safety precautions, detailed information on their whereabouts must be documented.
Medical Emergencies (Physical or Psychiatric)
Students will provide medical information to the Program staff upon arrival. Student must inform Peer Leader of any medical emergency. Peer Leader will contact Campus Safety immediately. Program staff will contact parent/guardian. Student will be taken to hospital by Campus Safety.
Parties
Students are not allowed to have parties unless approved by program staff.
Pets
No pets are allowed in the residence halls. Students are expected to abide by the rules and regulations of this policy as outlined in their signed agreement.
Physical Altercations
Use of physical force to endanger, injure, abuse, intimidate, or coerce another person is strictly prohibited.
Quiet Hours
24-hour courtesy hours are in effect – there are many guests on campus during the summer months. Noise levels should be kept reasonable at all times. (i.e. no screaming down the halls, playing music at high levels).
Quiet hours will be from 6:00pm – 9:00pm & 12 midnight – 7:00am Sunday – Thursday/12 midnight – 9:00am Friday-Saturday
Resident Hall Hours
Residents must be in the building by 12 midnight on the weeknights and 2:00am on weekend nights. The Resident Hall doors will be locked by 12 midnight/2:00am respectively.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited in all College buildings and is not permitted immediately outside of the residence hall.
Study Hours
Study hours are from 7:00pm – 9:00pm Sunday through Thursday. All students are expected to study during this time in one of the following areas: residence hall, library, computer lab, or AES Academic Tutorial Center, where they should check in with a Peer Leader upon arrival.
Theft
Theft of any sort is not tolerated.
Weapons
Weapons are not permitted in Ithaca College’s residence halls. These weapons include bows, arrows, firearms, switchblades, knives of any kind, sharp-edged cutting instruments, axes, hatchets, instruments used in performance of lethal martial arts, and other instruments which in the judgment of the Peer Leader represent a potentially dangerous weapon.
