Primate and Bird Behavior and Ecology in Panama
Winter Break Trip Information (2006-2007)
In case you were wondering what to do this winter between semesters ... ;-)
Lisa Paciulli (Anthropology) and René Borgella (Biology) are teaching a winter break course called, ''Primate and Bird Behavior and Ecology in Panama,'' Central America during this coming winter break (from December 29, 2006 to January 18, 2007).
You can see the Panama Syllabus, Schedule and Trip Poster for more information about the course. Visit these links to see more of the Flora, Fauna, Birds, and a general list for species seen in the vicinity of where we’ll be for a lot of our visit.
To those of you considering joining us in Panama, please do the following:
1- See how you feel about the course content.
Look over the syllabus paying particular attention to two sections:
a) The part that reviews the course activities and the point value of the activities (in the middle, around page 3) and
b) The ‘Daily Routine’ (almost at the end of the syllabus)
2- See how you feel about where we will be going. Look over the travel itinerary.
3- Discuss and receive permission from your parents to go (if necessary).
4- Make sure you have the financial resources to cover the entire cost of the trip (~$3,000.00 for one credit, although you can receive and pay for 2 or 3 credits).
5- Consider whether you have the physical stamina and personality such that you find it easy to; follow instructions, follow an established itinerary, be flexible when the itinerary changes, be a part of a group, get along with difficult people in difficult situations, ‘go with the flow,’ and not see such trips as opportunities to stay up late and drink alcohol.
After considering the above, if you still seriously are interested in going (in other words: you want to go; can make the time to go; have discussed it with your parents; and have the financial, physical, and mental ; ) resources to go), please do the following –
6- Let one of us know ASAP via e-mail (rborgella@ithaca.edu, lpaciulli@ithaca.edu).
7- Fill-out the Office of International Programs Study Abroad Application Short Term (Summer/Spring Break/Winter) Program form, which can be downloaded from <http://www.ithaca.edu/oip/Short%20Term_Application_new06.pdf>
