Internships

Sarah is currently completing her MS Communication degree
Sarah is a graduate student in the MS program at Ithaca College specializing in advertising. In the summer of 2011, she interned with Museum of the Earth, a non-profit museum located in Ithaca. Museum of the Earth boasts a large collection of millions of specimens and brings natural history education to the local area.
“This internship had me hitting the ground running from day one. The second I walked through the door I had to create a promotion for a new exhibit opening that Friday—and I did it. Not everything was that hectic of course, but I felt like I was doing important work in such a fascinating field.” Sarah was responsible for assisting in promotional campaigns, as well as marketing upcoming events in the surrounding areas, as well as using some of her graphic design talents.
Sarah says that she felt most of her classes helped her in her internship experience: “Visual Design was beneficial because it is where I learned PhotoShop and InDesign skills! Other classes such as Marketing Management, Designing Communication Strategies, and Workplace Learning and Performance were all visible in my daily work as well.”
“I recently switched careers from a political-legal career to advertising when I realized I needed a change in my professional life. I have never been more pleased with my choice not only because of the excellent education I am receiving, but also because I can apply that knowledge in a real-world setting and succeed while doing it. I was able to prove that I can perform well at what I do and I cannot wait to see what my professional future will hold.”
