2024 IC Student Service Learning Recognition

Graduating Seniors Adriana Sulca and Camille Brock were both recently recognized for their service-learning contributions to both IC and the greater Tompkins County community.

Adriana was recognized for outstanding civic leadership by the Partners for Campus-Community Engagement (PCCE). PCCE recognizes outstanding students throughout their network who have exemplified civic leadership during their higher education experience. They specifically look for Seniors who have exemplified PCCE's mission to build equitable and just relationships with communities in order to advance a democratic society for the public good. Adriana served as the IC Eco Reps Program Manager for 2023-24 and helped to reinvigorate that peer-to-peer environmental education group through meaningful projects such as the Friday Night campus food donation program, the expansion of apartment composting and the managing of the on-campus reuse shop, Take It or Leave It (TIOLI). To help advance these efforts Adriana and the Eco Reps worked with the Friendship Donation Network, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County and Recycling and Materials Management of Tompkins County. For more information on the work of the Eco Reps visit https://www.icecoreps.org/.

Camille was IC’s recipient of Campus Compact’s Newman Civic Fellowship for 2023-24. In addition to her many other campus contributions, Camille worked in through this fellowship with IC’s Office of Energy Management & Sustainability in climate action planning. The Newman Civic Fellowship is a year-long program that recognizes and supports student public problem solvers at Campus Compact member institutions. Fellows are nominated based on their potential for public leadership and their work with communities. Throughout the fellowship year, Campus Compact provides students with opportunities to nurture their assets and help them develop strategies for social change—creating a network of connected and engaged student leaders who can support one another in making positive change. Camille specifically worked on summarizing the key aspects of IC’s Climate Action Plan and touching base with community partners to identify subject areas IC may want examine to assist with its goal of being climate neutral by 2050.

Thanks to the great service that Adriana and Camille provided over the past year to Ithaca. We look forward to seeing the great ways you contribute to the communities you live and work in post-graduation!
