Student Body President Accepts Internship
Jeffrey Goodwin, President of the Ithaca College Student Government Association (SGA), will be off campus for approximately one month next spring semester. During his absence, Aubrey Bendix, the current Vice President of Campus Life, will be overseeing the presidential responsibilities.
This past summer, Jeff accepted an internship with NBC for the Vancouver Olympics in British Columbia, Canada. The internship will last from February 6 to March 7, 2010.
“At first I completely wrote off going to Vancouver,” said Jeff. “But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it will be possible to complete this internship without jeopardizing the SGA.”
The four SGA Vice Presidents and the Senate Chair were notified of Jeff’s intentions over the summer. Jeff and Aubrey have spent the past month planning how best to ensure a seamless transition in the spring.
“I chose Aubrey Bendix to take on the presidential role because of her extensive campus involvement and proven leadership abilities,” said Jeff. Jeff will be in close contact with all members of the SGA executive board throughout his internship. Upon returning from Vancouver, Jeff will relieve Aubrey of her temporary role and reassume all previous presidential responsibilities.

Hey
What's up everybody?
My name is Eddie Lemonier and I'm the new VP of Communications. At the end of the Fall '08 semester, I heard that Luke Elmers, the previous VP of Communications, would be studying in Los Angeles in the Spring '09 semester, and that this position needed to be filled. Upon hearing this, I decided to apply for the position, and after being interviewed by the Executive Board and presenting to the Senate, I was chosen as the new VP of Communications.
If you take a look at my profile in the top right of the screen, you will see a short list of my credentials, as well as other various information. I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you, and let you know that I am really excited about fulfilling this position. These first few weeks of the semester have been filled with incredible learning opportunities, and the entire SGA has been very helpful throughout this transition process. I recently learned how to use the SGA website, so forgive me for taking so long to update the Communications section of the site. I will do my best to consistently provide you with information pertaining to events taking place on and off campus.
Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to chat. Thank you!

Cortaca This Weekend!
Hey everyone --
As you probably already know, the annual Cortaca game will be taking place this weekend. I just wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of a few things:
- Have fun. Cortaca only happens once a year, so enjoy it...
- BUT be smart about how you celebrate. Students have made decisions in the past that put both themselves and others in danger. Please, take care of yourself and take care of your friends: celebrate responsibly.
- If you don't have tickets to the game or aren't planning on traveling there, feel free to stop by the SGA's live screening of the game in the Pub / IC Square. It's totally free and there will be pizza, wings, and giveaways. Kickoff is at noon so don't miss out!

VP applications now available!
The SGA is beginning a search process for a new Vice President of Communications and Vice President of Business & Finance for the Spring 2009 semester. The positions are currently held by Luke Elmers '10 (VP Communications) and Miriam Feldman '10 (VP Business & Finance), both of whom will be studying off campus next semester. Both positions are a part of the SGA's Executive Board, and applications are open to all IC students.
The VP of Communications is responsible for overseeing all of the SGA's internal and external communications. Major responsibilities include serving as Chair of the Communications Committee, coordinating organizational marketing efforts and exploring new ways to reach out to Ithaca College students. Individuals with strong organizational skills and experience in marketing, advertising, public relations and other communication or business fields are encouraged to apply.
The VP of Business & Finance oversees all of the SGA's expenditures and Chairs the Budget Committee, which allocates funds to the student organizations. Major responsibilities include maintaining ongoing records of all expenses and income, setting up budgets for events, and processing applications for the Budget Committee. Students with strong organizational skills and experience in business, finance, accounting or economics are encouraged to apply.
Both of these positions are of critical importance to the SGA, and candidates will be expected to be highly motivated and capable of working both independently and in group environments. Applications for these positions are now available, and will be due by Thanksgiving break. Candidates can download applications from the SGA's website (under the "senate" section) or pick them up in the Student Activities Center. The SGA Executive Board will process the applications and perform interviews to select three finalists, who will give a presentation to the entire Student Government Association. The senate will make a final vote to select the new Vice Presidents before the end of the semester.

City of Ithaca Odd / Even Parking Regulations Go into Effect November 1, 2008
Students -- if you ever park downtown, be sure to read this important information that we just received from the Ithaca Downtown Partnership:
The City of Ithaca would like to remind its residents and visitors that between November 1, 2008 and April 1, 2009, the City's Odd/ Even Parking Regulation will be in effect. The regulation reads: "Effective November 1- April 1 of each year no person shall park a vehicle between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the odd-numbered side of all City streets on the odd-numbered days of the calendar month, and on the even-numbered side of all City streets on the even-numbered days of the calendar month." To explain this regulation in simple terms: when you park your car for the evening (before midnight) on even numbered days, park on the side of the street where the house numbers are even, and on the odd side of the street on odd numbered days of the week. This tip does not work if you park after midnight because the date has changed, so follow the city code language. In addition, beware of instances when the 31st of the month changes to the 1st of the month as both are odd-numbered days. If your street is not marked with 24 hour parking signs, and there is only parking on one side of the street, you must move your car to another street on the off evenings. The City also has a year-round 24 hour parking restriction that is effective Monday - Friday. This means that no matter what street you live on, you must move your vehicle every 24 hours during the week. Vehicles that have not moved in 72 hours could be considered abandoned and become subject to towing at the owner's expense. Your compliance with this regulation ensures that the city streets are kept free from accumulated snow and debris, and that parking spaces remain available to residents, commuters, and visitors. For more information on these parking regulations, please contact the City Clerk's Office (607) 274-6570.
For additional information contact: Julie Conley Holcomb, City Clerk (607) 274-6570

SGA Introduces "The Chopping Block"
Today, the Executive Board of the Ithaca College Student Government Association announced that they will be hosting a new event called "The Chopping Block: Your Chance to Put the SGA in the Hot Seat". The event, to take place Thursday, October 23rd from 7:00-8:00pm in IC Square, will function as an "open mic" question and answer session where students can voice concerns about the issues facing Ithaca College. The SGA Executive Board will be there to answer questions directly and engage their peers in discussion on the issues at hand. This event was created to respond to concerns over what SGA does, how they work, and how students can participate in the activities of the SGA. Recent concerns raised over issues such as chalking have fueled an even greater interest in the involvements of the SGA, and the Executive Board hopes students will take advantage of this opportunity to speak out. The SGA is encouraging students to submit questions beforehand via email at sga@ithaca.edu. This will help guide the conversation for the hour-long Q&A session and will enable students who cannot be in attendance to participate. The Chopping Block is a part of the SGA's ongoing efforts to involve the student body in every aspect of its decision making. Let me know if you have any questions about this awesome opportunity!

Should "chalking" be allowed on campus?
Currently, writing with chalk anywhere on campus is considered a form of vandalism according to the Ithaca College administration. Should students be allowed to use chalk to promote events? In the past few years, the SGA has received feedback from students that chalking could offer a more sustainable form of advertising than wasting paper to print hundreds of flyers. Additionally, some student organizations have suggested that there is a need for better, more creative ways to promote events on campus. As a result of this feedback, the SGA has spearheaded efforts to institute a chalking policy on a semester or year-long trial basis. Now, we need to hear from you more than ever. We have not yet reached an agreement with the administration on the best way to implement this trial policy. Do you think chalking should be allowed on campus? Or do you view it as an inconvenience? Should students be subject to judicial action for writing with chalk, or is it important to regulate chalking on campus? More specifically, what kind of plan do you think should be put in place if you support the idea of chalking? Should anybody be allowed to do it? Just student organizations? Should people be required to get prior approval before chalking? We'd love to hear your opinions on this important topic! Feel free to shoot an email to sga@ithaca.edu, stop by our office in the Student Activities Center (3rd floor of Campus Center), or call 607-274-1414. You are also invited to come to our meeting this Tuesday at 8:15pm and speak to the SGA directly during our "public forum". Individuals simply sign up on our public forum sheet before the meeting and are given five minutes to address the senate. Our meetings are held in the Taughannock Falls Meeting Room in Campus Center.
