
Kathleen Rountree became Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Music on August 1, 2007. She comes to Ithaca from Greensboro, North Carolina, where she served as Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Dr. Rountree holds degrees in music from East Carolina University (B.M.), Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (M.M.), and The Florida State University (D.M.), and has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia . She was recorded on a CD entitled American Music for Flute and Piano, and served as editor on two volumes of the piano music of Mendelssohn and Chopin. Her writings on music and music teaching have appeared in the primary journals of the discipline, and she has served as a clinician in many states and at numerous national conferences and conventions.
In 1999 she was named a Fellow of the American Council on Education, the premier leadership program for higher education administration. Other awards include a Fulbright Seminar Award for Administrators in International Education, and selection as a protégé of the Millenial Leadership Institute. She has presented at national meetings of the American Association of Higher Education; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; the Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences, the National Association of Schools of Music, and Music Teachers National Association.
She currently serves on the Board of Governors of the National Council on Undergraduate Research, and has recently completed a second term on the Board of Directors of Music Teachers National Association.
