Madalyn Averbach ’09, Brian Cicero ’10, Ara Eckel ’09, Maura Gladys ’11, Renee LaDue ’09, Andrew Longcore ’09, Janelle Mackereth ’09, Virginia Moore ’09, and Laura Rowett ’09 were chosen to present papers at the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in April 2009.
Christina Bryant '11 was selected to participate in the Fusion Arts Exchange Program in Screenwriting and Film Production Program for Summer 2009. She was one of five American fellows were chosen for the program.

Jessica Briskin ’09, Sarah Hathaway ’09, and Kira Walsh ’09 teamed up with assistant professors Dennis Charsky and Mary Lou to present "Re-designing a Course Management System to Enhance a Course Simulation," at the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) conference in November 2008.
Jessica Kleppang and Hannah Kerns, graduate students, earned a merit award for the "Apprentice Competition" at the national student conference of the International Association of Business Communicators held in Hartford, CT. Teams of students from communications programs around the US had two hours to develop a communications strategy for an actual business problem posed and then judged by professionals from United Technologies Corporation.
Evan Falk ’09 won First Place in the Associated Collegiate Press On-Site Photo Competition "D.C. Portrait" for his image taken of a Vietnam War veteran standing at an gravesite of another soldier who had saved his life.
Maura Gladys '10, a Park Scholar and journalism major, worked with Professor Mead Loop to conduct research on the credibility and practices of the reporters who cover fantasy sports - the first such research of its kind in the country. Their work is featured in the December issue of Quill magazine, the national publication of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Kaitlyn McQuaid '10, a cinema and photography major with a concentration in still photography and minors in German and art history, placed as a finalist in Photographer's Forum magazine's 29th annual student photography contest, sponsored by Nikon USA. More than 4,000 students from around the world participated in the contest.
Peter Pasco '09 was chosen for American Advertising Federation’s Most Promising Minority Student Program. Hannah Moore '09 was selected to the program's honor roll. Pasco was also selected to participate in American Association of Advertising Agencies' Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP) for the Summer 2008 and received an Advertising Women of New York Scholarship Award.
Ashley Patane '09 was one of 15 students nationwide to be selected as a 2008 Stickell Internship recipient, a scholarship and internship given by the American Advertising Federation (AAF). She also received an Advertising Women of New York Scholarship Award and the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) Scholarship.
Martha Ormiston ‘09 was chosen to have her photograph exhibited in a juried show, "The Art of Photography Show 2009", in the Lyceum Theater Gallery in San Diego. She took the photograph as part of her Photo Workshop class with Professor Ron Jude last semester, and he sponsored her entry into this contest. Out of 15,000 entries from 57 countries, only 11 pieces were chosen.
Erin Schaffner ’11, Josh Steiner ’11, and Mykal Urbina ’11 Matt Murphy ’10, Kate Milburn ’09, Laura Swanson ’10, Nicole Krestos ’09, Stephanie Torres ’11 and Frieda Becker ’11 presented papers at the 2009 Conference for Undergraduate Research in Communication in Rochester, NY in April 2009.
Kristen Elizabeth Snyder ’09 was named a semifinalist in the Scriptapalooza, an international screenwriting competition. Her entry, "Man Bank," was selected as one of the Top 50 scripts out more than 4,200 entries.
Kiersten Timpe '10 was awarded the Lee Epstein Scholarship by the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF).
Zachary Tomanelli '11, a Park Scholar, had an article published in Sporting Kid Magazine’s Fall 2008 issue. The article, entitled “Wanted: Trustworthy Volunteers”, deals with embezzlement in youth sports leagues. Tomanelli wrote the article for his journalism research class, which requires students to write a 20-page magazine style article on a topic of their choice.
Charles Woodard ’09, a Film, Photography & Visual Art major, recently published The History of Photography in Pen & Ink, a set of forty-three pen and ink line drawings.
Jessica Zerillo ’09 was one of twelve students nationwide to receive a $5,000 John Bayliss Broadcaster Foundation Scholarship.
Nine Park School students had their work featured on WCNY, the PBS affiliate in Syracuse, in April 2009. The station aired a 30-minute special devoted to three documentaries that were filmed as class assignments for Nonfiction Production taught by assistant professor John Scott. The films were: “Breaking Boundaries” by Dylan Mizner ’10, Brent Ross ’09, and Neth Wiedeman ’09; “Camp Cedar Grove” by Colleen Goodhue ’09, Katie Gorham ’10, and Nicholas Lareau ’10; and “All Natural Baby” by Laura Caccavo ’10, Mike Hendel ’09, and Ben Maizell ’09.
Representatives from assistant professor Cory Young's Government and Stakeholder Relations Class presented at the Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) Conference on Undergraduate Research in April 2009. Their research, titled "Corporate Evolution and the Capitalist Dilemma: A Critical Paradigm for CSR," won best poster at the conference. Kristina Roth ’10, P.J. Scott ’09, and Lauren Sirkey ’09 were on hand to accept the award for their class. The students are currently working on a manuscript for the Journal of Business Ethics on corporate social responsibility. The class translated the process of writing the manuscript into the poster that was presented.
