Jason Soon '08
Major: Communication, Management and Design/Philosophy
PRI Museum of the Earth, Ithaca, NY
Ithaca’s Paleontological Research Institution houses one of the largest fossil collections in
the world. It presents these in educational programs and exhibits at the Museum of the Earth, where
Jason researched and crafted a public relations campaign for a major new exhibit, as well as created
surveys for museum patrons. It was a tremendous opportunity to pitch ideas to real people and
understand the problem-solving role of the marketing professional. Jason even represented the museum at
Ithaca’s Dragon Boat Festival in July! It was an enjoyable experience with a great deal of
responsibility to conduct programming and determine the path of an image-based campaign.

Samantha Constant '09
Major: Cinema and Photography
Internship Site: NBC Print Advertising
City: Los Angeles, CA
Samantha interned directly under the Digital Creative director for digital advertising, working with a team of two-in house designers and one freelancer. Sitting in on both digital brainstorming meetings and print planning meetings gave Samantha a feel for the basic structure of an in-house advertising agency. She also worked on social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook, made screen captures of NBC digital ads, chose photos for integrated advertisers, and even created animated ads to be used for phone wallpaper downloads. Samantha experienced the transformation of print ads and came to appreciate the dynamics of advertising for television. The internship came with some additional perks; her ID pass gave her access to Universal’s back lot.
Randi Baron '10
Major: Television-Radio, Audio Production
Internship Site: Fanatic Promotion
City: New York, New York
“This internship really helped me realize that I love promoting…and that I definitely want
to work in the music industry,” says Randi. She had a fantastic internship experience with
the artist promotion and media relations agency, Fanatic Promotion. As a radio promoter, she sent
recordings to radio music directors, helped discover new clients, distributed mailings, researched
music chart information and sent promotional emails. One of the most challenging yet valuable
tasks for Randi was cold-calling hundreds of people each week. “I was really intimidated at
first, but eventually got better and more comfortable at talking on the phone.” Randi
attended the Fanatic’s showcase at the CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival, a five day New York
City festival. Fanatic Promotions asked her back to help at the CMJ, giving her free entrance to one of
the biggest concerts of the season!

Douglas Evasick '08
Major: Journalism, History Minor
Internship Site: Clear Channel Communications: The Ryan and Caroline Show
City: New York, NY
Douglas learned a little bit about everything that goes into a radio production by interning with The Ryan and Caroline Show - a two-hour syndicated radio show. He catalogued all of the components of each episode. After making sure that all of the talk sets and celebrity interviews were in order, Douglas would choose the best material for a two minute demo to promote the show to radio stations. Douglas sat in on the taping of every show and “saw what it took to be a radio personality.” He additionally learned the proper way to copy music and talk sets for radio airing. On the post-production side, he edited tracks and e-mailed them to Clear Channel’s center in Cincinnati. Douglas had a tremendous experience in a challenging internship. “The tasks I were given were not easy, but since I knew when to ask for help and when to figure things out for myself I was able to get all the work done and be applauded for my efforts.”

Alyssa Gardina '08
Major: Integrated Marketing Communications
Internship Site: Somerset House
City: London, UK
Not everyone can say that they interned in a 16th century palace! Alyssa has those bragging rights after her internship at the Somerset House during her study abroad experience at the Ithaca College London Center. The Somerset House, a cultural center on the Thames, hosts events, art exhibits, film showings, theatre performances, and concerts and serves as a movie set.
As an assistant in the marketing communications department, Alyssa worked on a complete re-branding of the Somerset House. She redesigned corporate communications pieces, archived the old publications and website, and maintained the e-newsletter. The department depended on Alyssa to do website design, graphic design, and copywriting, but she also did “typical intern things” such as running errands and data entry, which “were great learning experiences and shouldn't be overlooked by any intern!” Alyssa has three words for anyone thinking of studying abroad, “Go. To London.”
