Introduction

Students consult with a Park School professor on an integrated marketing communications project.

Ithaca's Roy H. Park School of Communications offers an unparalleled breadth of opportunities to explore the expanding applications of contemporary media: artistic expression, entertainment, journalism, online collaboration and social media, organizational and marketing communication, and instructional technologies.

You'll become fluent in the ways people and organizations "talk" to one another: not only through words, but also through images, sound, interaction spaces, and design. You'll learn to analyze communication systems and practices with a critical eye and to develop the skills to express your own ideas clearly and forcefully.

With its commitment to academic excellence grounded in professional practice, it's no wonder that the Park School is a leader in preparing students not just to get a job -- but to create the future of communications.

Innovation is in our DNA: We were the first college with a TV channel over 50 years ago, and the first to offer professional workshops in interactive media in 1980. Contemporary courses, immediate hands-on media experience, international travel opportunities, the opportunity to create your own shows and films, community service and consulting projects, internships, and networking with thought leaders in communications all combine to give you the immediate skills and intellectual flexibility to build a career for a lifetime.

Academic Excellence

Our curriculum reflects today's convergent media landscape. With programs that blend instruction in business, news, entertainment, and media arts, our students graduate well-equipped to understand the intricacies of their chosen field, be it journalism, television, radio, cinema, documentary studies, photography, advertising/PR, corporate communications, or instructional technology. You'll be immersed in your major from day one -- and you can also stay on to earn a master's degree focusing on strategic organizational communication in as little as 15 months.

Our faculty of committed scholars and professionals are known for creating award-winning films and videos, conducting innovative research, and writing books that influence the way the world thinks about the media. You'll have countless opportunities to collaborate with them on production and research projects, as well as take advantage of visits from alumni and other industry leaders.

Cocurricular Opportunities

You'll expand your learning, both on and off campus, with the kinds of opportunities that are available within your first week at Ithaca.

  • Get behind the microphone at our own radio stations, WICB and VIC; behind the camera with Park Productions and ICTV; designing posters, ads, and fliers for the Park Design House, or in front of breaking news with the Ithacan, our weekly student newspaper.
  • Attend classes in the heart of the entertainment world. During a semester at the Ithaca College James B. Pendleton Center in Los Angeles, you can put your knowledge to work as an intern for the likes of Universal Pictures, the Bravo network, the Los Angeles Times, or Atlantic Records.
  • Spend a semester abroad at the Ithaca College London Center, or in the heart of political and international affairs and not-for-profit agencies at our center in Washington, D.C. Both offer courses that highlight the unique opportunities available in those world capitals, as well as guaranteed internship placements.

A Powerful Alumni Network

Of course, a top-notch education will take you only so far if you can't break into the professional world. Our alumni are not only high achievers, but they're extraordinarily accessible. They lead prominent media corporations such as Disney and NBC Universal; develop innovative digital platforms for the likes of Internet Broadcast Systems, Razorfish, and Grey Direct Marketing; produce, write, and direct award-winning TV shows and films like Boston Legal, the Late Show with David Letterman, and the Saw films; create animation and educational simulations for companies like the Ant Farm and e-Cornell; and write for publications like GQ, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and SmartMoney magazine.

They'll help you network with other professionals in their field, offer career advice, give lectures and workshops on campus, and maybe even help you land that first job.
