School of Business Professor, Margaret Shackell made eight presentations in the month of October.
First, at the IMA Management Accounting Case Conference at Northern Kentucky University, she made four. 1) She presented a case co-authored with a recent Ithaca College alumna, Oliva Carpenter, “Via’s Cookies: Cookies to Change the World”. 2) She presented a case with co-author Jennifer Cainas, “NASCAR: Using a Lean Mindset”; 3) she was on an editor panel about publishing case research, and 4) she facilitated a case development session for burgeoning case author, Floran Syler-Woods from Stillman College, for their case “Data and Non-Profit Fundraising Applications”.
For the Finger Lakes Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants professional association, Professor Shackell presented her research entitled “Are You Promotable?” virtually. Over 100 practitioners and students, including those in the honor society Beta Alpha Psi, and the club NABA: National Association of Black Accountants, attended.
At the American Accounting Association Diversity, Teaching, and Learning Conference in San Antonio, Texas, she made three presentations: 1) The Plenary Session “Making the Case for Writing and Publishing. Insights from the Editors of the IMA Education Case Journal, Issues in Accounting Education and the Journal of Accounting Education”: with two other editors, she elaborated on the way to prepare scholarly teaching cases to enhance student learning in the classroom, 2) “Via’s Cookies: Cookies to Change the World”: with alumna Olivia Carpenter, and 3) “Preparing Students for the Future”: a discussion of classroom tools and techniques to prepare accounting students for the changing career opportunities with IMA Professor-in-Residence, Laurie Burney and Lisa Beaudoin, Senior Director of Business Development for the IMA.
