Residential Workshop (Ithaca, NY)
Overview
The summer residential workshop provides you with an opportunity to bring-to-life your own vision and apply the stage direction skills learned during the spring virtual session.
You receive one-on-one guidance from admired and respected professional stage director, Chuck Hudson, and work with a professional conductor, stage manager, opera singers, and accompanists to stage and direct performers in a selected scene.
The summer residential experience includes a dress rehearsal and culminates in a performance of the selected scene on the final day of the workshop.
2024 IC Opera Direction and Studio Scenes
During the 2024 IC Opera Direction Level II and IC Opera Studio programs, scenes from these works will be rehearsed:
- "Blake" by H. Leslie Adams
- "Whaling Women" by Jodi Goble
- "Little Women" by Marc Adamo
- "Hansel and Gretel" by Engelbert Humperdinck
Eligibility
You must complete the spring virtual session to participate in the summer residential workshop. While completing both in the same year yields the greatest benefit, we can accommodate a participant who would like to complete the virtual session one spring and then the residency the following summer. You must complete both the virtual session and residency workshop to obtain the non-credit-bearing professional certificate.
Course Dates
The summer residential workshop operates from May 28 - June 09, 2024. The workshop is full-time during this time period; however you are provided with 2 days without structured workshops to permit downtime, reflection, and preparation for the culminating opera directing scene. We recommend that you plan May 27 and June 10 as your travel days.
