The Park School has terrific internship and job connections. First, with over 13 thousand communications alumni and over 60 years of experience, we have a multitude of opportunities to help you with your professional development.
We help you make those connections by having a Park Career Engagement Specialist right in the school and professional development coordinator (in Los Angeles), by offering one-on-one assistance, workshops, bringing alumni and other professionals to campus, and by giving you access to a great set of databases. Our students begin in their first semester exploring the variety of careers, finding mentors and professionals to shadow, and developing their own portfolios and LinkedIn profiles.
More than half of our alumni got their jobs directly or indirectly through their internships, and about 80% of our students do at least one internship.
Internships provide important resume-building, hands-on experience that put students in an environment where they can apply their classroom training. By working as an intern, students gain a deeper understanding of their industry and functions. Additionally, students start to build their professional networks which are invaluable when seeking employment after graduation.
There are many venues for internships:
- A number of organizations in Ithaca offer internships, including our own athletics, educational technology, and college relations departments, local media production firms, regional TV and radio stations, and in the PR or marketing departments of non-profit agencies, and companies.
- Many students do internships during the summer near their homes or other places where they have friends or relatives. We can help you learn to find those opportunities, even if you're not in a major city.
- The Park School's Los Angeles Program operates year-round and has a separate database. Students work about 30 hours at an internship site which gives them the ability to really take on challenging and important roles.
