Spring 2023

During the 2023 spring semester, the seminar focused on children’s media and social responsibility. During three separate weekends throughout the semester, graduates of the Park Scholar Program came to Ithaca to meet with Park Scholars throughout the weekend and to make a formal presentation on the roles and responsibilities of children’s media content and creators.

In February, Ashley Moulton (’09) presented on “Children's Media 101: What kids can learn from TV and interactive media, how to make quality educational media for kids, and why it matters.”Ashley has worked for over ten years in children's media and educational technology. She also founded a children's cooking company and website and authored a cookbook and advice books for kids.

In March, Maddy Feiner (‘17) spent the first weekend on March in Ithaca. Maddy has accrued a great deal of experience and expertise in the field of children's media. She is currently Senior Manager, Consumer Products for 9 Story Media Group. In her presentation, Maddy showed how to take a seemingly transactional and corporate endeavor — licensing and marketing children’s media characters — and use it as a springboard to advance inclusion, diversity, and representation and to craft powerful educational and socially aware messages.

Daniel Haack (’10)

Daniel Haack (’10) and Isabel Galupo ('14)

In April, Daniel Haack (’10) and Isabel Galupo (’14) came from LA to Ithaca to complete the Spring Semester Seminar on children's media.Daniel is theSenior Director of Magic Star (Kids & Family Entertainment) @ The Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. Isabel is an author and television writer who has worked at Nickelodeon Animation, Warner Bros. Animation, and Netflix. Daniel and Isabel's children’s books -- one of which was one of the top ten banned books of 2019 -- are in the Park Scholar lounge. Park Scholars enjoyed a fireside chat and dinner with Daniel and Isabel about the importance of diversity and representation in children’s media and the social responsibilities of content creators. They were joined by Carly Willsie (’10), a content creator and creative manager of other content creators.
