Maddie Jaffe

Maddie Jaffe Headshot

In the 2023-24 academic year, Maddie spent most of her time dedicated to creativity. For her group service project, she worked with The Village at Ithaca to create the Stolen Joy project’s documentary, Restoring Joy, which premiered at the Park School at the end of last year. Maddie worked on set to ensure safety, and she helped generate the questions for thought that were displayed on the guide which accompanied the film. Maddie enjoyed this service because of the satisfaction that came from watching the students of the Village see their own ideas brought to life. For her individual service last semester, Maddie co-facilitated Art Club at the Beverly J. Martin elementary school in Ithaca. This service included tasks such as creating art projects for the students, guiding students towards expressing themselves, and engaging students in conversation and relaxing activities after a long day of school. Maddie enjoyed this service, as it was a chance to give exhausted teachers a break and to embrace creativity. Outside of service, Maddie assisted several senior students with writing their thesis film scripts last semester and school year, helping them to flesh out their ideas and bring dialogue to life. Maddie also interned with the website Music Mecca, a site dedicated to publishing indie music reviews and spotlighting new artists. Maddie thoroughly enjoyed this experience, which influenced her future career plans and opportunities. This year, Maddie will continue working with students at Beverly J. Martin Elementary School and will volunteer with Crisis Text Line.
