Alefiya Presswala

Alefiya is a journalism student from New Jersey with minors in writing, graphic design and Deaf studies. During the 2023-24 school year, Alefiya was greatly involved with the Finger Lakes ReUse Center and helped them advertise their resources. She was also heavily involved in many publications on campus. Over the summer, Alefiya worked as a fact checking intern at FAIR, a media criticism group in Manhattan where she was able to work on her own research project about breaking news headlines. This year, Alefiya returns to campus as the president of Buzzsaw Magazine, PR coordinator and editor for Stillwater Magazine and a copyeditor for The Ithacan. She is also a student manager at the campus library and will start as a Peer Educator at the BIPOC Unity Center. She is continuing her work with the ReUse Center, including creating a volunteer orientation video for the Center, and she is volunteering with Ithaca's local independent cooperative bookstore, Buffalo Street Books, helping them to run their social media accounts. Alefiya is excited to continue her journey as a Park Scholar and keep learning about issues that are important to her.
