During the 2023-2024 academic year, Emma Brown was involved in The Ithacan as a video team staff member, WIC (Women in Communications), and a sound mixer for a student film. She participated in the Finger Lakes ReUse group service where she and several other Park Scholars began working in the fall, sorting donated items and helping with the upkeep of the store. They quickly transitioned to creating content for the organization, which included a commercial, grant video, and collection of footage that can be edited for future projects as needed. Emma is continuing this group service in the current academic year, as she enjoyed working for an organization with such strong values. She enjoyed the focus on sustainability and accessibility. Emma’s individual service took place at Loaves and Fishes, where she was given the opportunity to share her love of food with the community, assisting in both food prep and service on Friday mornings. This was an amazing experience for her, as it created connections with community members and bridged the gap between Ithaca College and the downtown area. For her individual service this year, Emma plans to volunteer at the Advocacy Center of Tompkins County, a local provider of Domestic and Sexual Violence services. This summer Emma worked for her high school’s Catskill Media Camp, where she taught elementary and middle school students how to produce their own short films. She also filmed and edited projects for Catskill Media’s YouTube channel. So far this year, Emma is part of The Ithacan photo team, Buzzsaw magazine, and Park
Productions.
