CMTS Step 4: Identifying Program Goals with the ASA’s Recommendations

To orient your department to the American Sociological Association’s recommendations and the Sociological Literacy Framework. To determine your colleagues’ perspectives on the merits of these recommendations. To identify any additional goals for your program.

One or two department meetings and an additional 15 minutes to log information into the Qualtrics CMTS Primary Tool.

1. Provide your colleagues access to the following resources

TOOL - Department Perspectives on the ASA Recommendations

Inform your colleagues that the video is only 5 minutes long and that you would want to gain their perspectives on each of the ASA’s recommendations and other goals that the department should seek to advance. Suggest that colleagues watch the video in advance of the meeting, but in case any member was not able to view the video, it might be helpful to watch it as a collectivity.

3. Add discussion of ASA recommendations as a main item on a department meeting agenda. Discuss with colleagues if review of the ASA recommendations is something they would want to commit to. Bring extra copies of the tool Department Perspectives on the ASA Recommendations to your department meeting.

4. If your colleagues are interested in reviewing the ASA recommendations, suggest that the department identify a leader. This could be you, or it could be someone else. If it is someone else, as Department Representative you will want to work with any other leader(s) when logging information into the CMTS Primary Tool. Determine the extent of agreement with each recommendation using the Tool – Department Perspectives on ASA Recommendations.

5. Log into the Qualtrics CMTS Primary Tool and answer 13 short questions.
