CAPS is offering in-person and virtual telehealth services.
*Please note that the CAPS policy is to hold Initial Consultations/Intake sessions in-person, unless there is a compelling reason to do otherwise. Subsequent sessions can be held through telehealth per agreement of the student and clinician. NYS OMH regulations concerning telehealth indicate the need for at least one in-person session with the provider, especially if medications are being considered. At CAPS, we feel that having the initial session in-person allows for a more thorough assessment of treatment needs. We also feel that in-person sessions offer a richer counseling experience and we will suggest that as our regular means of interacting.
We continue to adhere to in-person guidelines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), a national regulatory agency, as our offices are located throughout the Hammond Health Center Building along with other Ithaca College healthcare facilities. Students coming into the building may be assessed for COVID symptoms prior to entering.
In cases where virtual appointments are necessary, the college provides confidential spaces on campus, which are available on a limited basis for students needing a private location for virtual appointments with off-campus providers or with an on-campus office. Students will need to email counseling@ithaca.edu 24-business-hours in advance to reserve one of these rooms.
CAPS counselors are available for in-person intervention in the case of an emergency or crisis. Other virtual support options include group therapy & skills-based support groups, Let's Talk, consultations, and after-hours on-call counselor services. As with all CAPS services, our virtual support options are free and confidential.
