Accommodations

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), any employee or applicant with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of his or her major life activities is eligible to request a reasonable accommodation.

A supervisor should not make assumptions about an employee’s physical or mental impairment. However, if an employee’s work is impacted by an impairment, you should discuss the work-related performance issues with the employee. This may include behavior, work performance or attendance.

If your employee believes that an impairment is affecting their work performance, they should notify you so that the disability accommodation procedure can be initiated. If you have questions regarding an accommodation, please review the information on the Workplace Accommodation webpage or contact a Benefits Team member
