Fire Evacuation Drills to be conducted

By webteam, January 25, 2021

Fire Evacuation drills will be conducted in all campus buildings during the next few weeks.  If you are in building and the fire alarm activates, you are required to exit even if attending a class remotely. If faculty are instructing from on-campus buildings and the building alarm activates, you must pause instruction and exit with other occupants.

Ithaca College Environmental Health and Safety personnel will be conducting Fire Evacuation drills for all campus buildings during the next few weeks.  As is ALWAYS the case, you are required to exit a building in a safe and expedited manner any time the fire alarm system is activated, and then gather at the building’s established meeting spot.  We ask that you please maintain social distancing and wear a face covering during any fire alarm activation.

We recognize that students may be attending a class via remote learning or faculty may be instructing when the alarm activates. If you are in a building and the fire alarm activates, your are required to exit the building.  Faculty that are providing instruction from on-campus sites must pause instruction and exit with other building occupants.   We hope everyone will be conscious of this and recognize that the interruption will likely be for no more that 5-10 minutes.  As usual, EH&S staff may conduct random room checks to assure compliance with evacuation requirements and persons found in non-compliance may be referred.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask the EH&S staff conducting the drill or contact Fire and Building Safety Coordinator Charlie Sherman at csherman1@ithaca.edu.

Welcome back to our students, staff and faculty, and recognize that working together we show a commitment of providing a safe environment for our college community.

Thank you
