Migration of Faculty & Staff Web Profiles is Complete

By David Cameron, January 29, 2021

The IC Web Strategy Team are very happy to announce that we have completed the successful migration of all active faculty and staff profiles into our Drupal system.

We want to thank all our campus colleagues for their patience, feedback, and support during this process. We recognize it may have been disruptive for some over the past few weeks, but thankfully this was the one and only time this migration process was required, and the benefits have been enormous. Just the migration of faculty profiles created over a thousand new and improved pages on our website. Counting all profiles created for faculty and staff, this means over 4,000 total pages of content that were stuck in our old web design are now instantly more mobile-friendly, web accessible, and far easier to edit and maintain.

Here are just some of the ways this work has helped make a positive impact on the college:

  • Improved experience for all users:  all faculty and staff profiles are now instantly accessible and mobile-friendly for all audiences. Build on modern code with a responsive design, they offer a more intuitive set of tools for anyone to make better web content.
  • New profiles help support recruitment:  getting all profiles on the new platform means they all finally look more like the rest of the website, and now they can be connected to related content (programs, departments, schools) within the same system seamlessly, creating new opportunities for how students discover our faculty and their work.
  • We can better measure and improve effectiveness:  moving all profiles to our cloud servers enables more robust analytics and tracking, and makes it easier for us to rapidly deploy design improvements and new features.
  • We reduce costs and risk:  we’ve significantly shortened the timeline for maintaining legacy web servers of our own, which will reduce costs and risks within our IT portfolio while simultaneously improving our website performance and reliability.

As a final reminder, any updates or changes you’d like to make to your profile must now be made in Drupal for them to be visible. Details of how to log into the website and access your profile are available in our knowledge base for your reference.

In the meantime, you can learn more about web profiles on our blog, and if you have any questions or concerns about web migration, you can contact the IC Web Team anytime through our web support form.

We’re excited to finally pass this important website milestone with you, and we look forward to seeing how you improve your own profiles in the weeks to come.
