COVID-19 Update: Thoughts on Dining

By Dan DeCaria, February 9, 2021

The semester is now fully up and running IC, as we are now in the first few days of in-person instruction! Take a minute and check out this week’s COVID-19 Update, which tackles some thoughts on dining as we continue to be #ICinThisTogether.

GrubHub Game Plan

Have you developed your GrubHub game plan yet this spring? As you know, all retail dining locations on campus this semester operate through the GrubHub application. The platform allows you to easily order ahead of time and gives you frequent updates on when your order is ready to be picked up for easy grab-and-go service. Here are some thoughts to help make for a smoother and safer GrubHub experience:

Order Ahead

Plan to place your order PRIOR TO ARRIVING at your retail dining location of choice. The app allows for great flexibility to build around your class and extra-curricular schedule. Take advantage of the system and eliminate the needless wait time.

Wait for Confirmation

The GrubHub app will let you know when your order is ready to be picked up. Please do not arrive at your dining location prior to receiving that confirmation message. This eliminates the need to congregate in common dining areas helping us better de-densify these spaces.

Grab-and-Go

When your order is ready, please pick it up and proceed to your next destination to eat - check out options at: Flex Spaces for some new spaces on campus for dining.

Timing the Lines

Sometimes the lines can be fairly significant if choosing to visit the dining hall during peak hours. If it works within your schedule, try to visit the dining hall during non-peak hours to avoid the possibility of encountering longer lines. Please be mindful to maintain at least six feet of physical distance with others in line at all times regardless if they are a part of your party or not.

Speaking of Spacing

We know dining halls are popular places to eat and catch up with friends, but they are not the only spaces available for dining on campus. The Office of the Registrar has an extensive list of flexible spaces that can be used for dining, studying and virtual classes this semester. Check out the full list at the link: Flex Spaces.
