The Collaborative Language Research Laboratory in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at Ithaca College, under the direction of Dr. Skott Jones, is recruiting college students to be in a study on how we perceive words as being visually similar to one another. We are looking for students who are 18 years or older, native English speakers, and have no history of language disorder or dyslexia.
The study involves joining a Zoom link at a designated time and watching a PowerPoint presentation. The PowerPoint will contain slides with different nonwords without meaning, and the participants will type into the Zoom chat which real word the nonword closely resembles to them. The study will take 15-20 minutes to conduct. The risks to you as a participant are minimal and would not exceed those likely to be encountered by you in your everyday life. Participants will not be required to display their video or unmute themselves on Zoom at any time during the task.
