COVID-19 Update: Thoughts on the Vaccine

By Dan DeCaria, March 9, 2021

Spring is finally here IC! The days are getting longer and warmer, as we continue to chug right along through this semester. Kudos are in order to our entire IC community as we continue to keep our numbers low and our spirits high, but that is not the only thing that is brightening our mood these days! Keep on reading our latest installment of COVID-19 Updates to find out more!

Have You Checked Out the Tompkins County Vaccine Registry?

I know it may seem hard to believe, but we are now entering the third month of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. As vaccine supply continues to build in the weeks and months ahead, it is important to start familiarizing yourself with the vaccine and appointment process.

New York State is currently in Phase 1a and 1b of its vaccine rollout, which includes a specific list of eligible occupations, age groups, and people with specific comorbidities and other underlying health conditions. You can learn more about the rollout in Tompkins County on the health department’s COVID-19 Vaccine webpage.

If you are part of a group currently eligible to receive the vaccine, we strongly urge you to complete the Tompkins County Vaccine Registry Form. Although completion of the form does not automatically guarantee a vaccine appointment, the Tompkins County Health Department uses this registry to contact eligible individuals in the Ithaca area when vaccine appointments become available within the community.

In addition to the vaccine registry, anyone eligible in Phase 1a or 1b can register for an appointment at any of the New York State-operated vaccine sites in nearby locations in Binghamton, Syracuse, and Rochester. Students who must travel outside of Tompkins County to receive the vaccine must complete the Emergency Travel Request

As a reminder, Ithaca College encourages all students, faculty and staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as they are eligible. Wide distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine amongst our IC community will be the most effective long-term measure to mitigating the impact of the virus on our campus.

In the meantime, a reminder that good COVID-19 public health practices are absolutely necessary in our efforts to continue to maintain our operational status. Let’s keep up the great work and be #ICinThisTogether!
