I am writing to update the campus community on plans for the forthcoming reopening of Ithaca College’s satellite instructional sites.
London Center (ICLC)
We are actively planning for a Fall 2021 reopening of the beautiful Ithaca College London Center. As recently announced on Intercom, Professor of Theatre Arts Catherine Weidner will serve as the Interim Director of ICLC for 2021-22, joining Orla McCormick, Associate Director, and the London Center staff who are eager to welcome IC students back to London. As we prepare, we continue to monitor guidance involving international travel as well as the many health and safety expectations the Center must observe.
Rachel Gould and Mimi Wright, in the Office of International Programs and Extended Studies, host regular information sessions for students eager to integrate international learning experiences into their studies, including plans for study at ICLC.
Los Angeles Center (ICLA)
Our ICLA site is anticipated to reopen in Summer 2021. Economists are predicting a surge in the availability of internships and jobs in the media production-related fields, and ICLA will be there to meet the need. ICLA will be taking a full complement of students in the 2021-22 academic year—allowing these individuals the opportunity to gain professional experience in their chosen fields while taking industry-related courses. ICLA classes are taught by Los Angeles-based faculty and industry professionals at the James B. Pendleton Center, located minutes from Burbank and Hollywood.
We are excited at the prospect of these two 2021 reopenings, pending all safety clearances, which of course are not guaranteed. If--for any reason--we are not confident in the safety of a reopening, advisors and deans’ offices would work with affected students to ensure a transitional academic plan.
New York City Center (ICNYC)
As you may know, Ithaca College temporarily suspended its New York City Program (ICNYC) due to the pandemic, closing the site as of Spring 2020. The college has determined that it will continue with its suspension of this program in 2021-22, while offering students continued access to internships and other forms of experiential learning in the city. We extend our deep thanks to the Center’s former director, Hersey Egginton, for his dedicated support of the program.
Students interested in pursuing internship opportunities in New York City for 2021-22 should reach out to their faculty advisors or department chairs, or they may reach out to the following school-specific personnel for additional information:
School of Music: Ivy Walz (ibuterbaughwalz@ithaca.edu) or Sheila Ossit (osheila@ithaca.edu)
School of H&S: H&S Dean’s Office: (hsadvising@ithaca.edu)
School of HSHP: Associate Dean Jana Waller (jwaller@ithaca.edu)
Park School of Communications: Associate Dean Bryan Roberts (broberts@ithaca.edu)
School of Business: Associate Dean Dawn Kline (dkline@ithaca.edu) or Anna Kimble (akimble1@ithaca.edu)
We continue to actively explore new options for additional domestic locations where IC students can benefit from professional partnerships and enriched experiential learning/internship opportunities.
With gratitude,
La Jerne Terry Cornish
