Remote Summer Job Opportunity: TA with the Ithaca Young Writers Institute

 The Ithaca Young Writers Institute (IYWI) is hiring three TAs to work during a five week (July 5-August 6) remote program. Three TAs to assist with the running of the Ithaca Young Writers Institute, this year held online over the course of five weeks (July 5 to August 6). The students will be high schoolers interested in writing. Each TA will be paired with a faculty member and core workshop: one in Fiction, one in Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and one in Cross Genre (personal essay, poetry, and image-text). Additional responsibilities will include proposing and teaching an asynchronous one-time craft class module in a topic of interest (approved and guided by faculty director); one TA, who should have experience with editing/publishing, to float to the Magazine class; modding and participating in an online social group for the students; providing feedback to student drafts. 

Some preparatory work/meeting/training will be completed before the institute begins and billable during the week prior to our official start date. 

Required Qualifications:
Preference will be given to previous IYWI alums and sophomore and junior Writing majors, but all students of sophomore standing with a strong writing background and some experience within the Writing Department are encouraged to apply. 

The ideal candidates will be responsible role models, excellent writers, and enthusiastic teachers with expertise in at least two of the following genres:

Poetry
Fiction
Personal Essay
Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Literary Magazines
Editing & Publishing
Scriptwriting
Songwriting

Please upload as a single document a cover letter, an up to date resume including the names of at least two references, and a copy of your unofficial transcript. The cover letter should provide answers to the following questions: 

Class Standing

Ranked areas of interest and expertise from one to three: Fiction, Sci-Fi Fantasy, poetry/personal essay/image text (it's ok if you have expertise in only one of the cross-genre areas)

Have you had any experience tutoring or teaching? If so, please describe.

Have you had any experience in literary magazines, publishing, or layout and design, such as working as an editor for Stillwater? If so, please describe.

Name two of the most important Writing courses you’ve taken. Why were they important to you?

Have you participated in the IYWI in any way before? If so, how?

What’s something you think you could contribute as an TA/RA for the Ithaca Writers Institute?

What’s something you think you could learn from being an TA/RA for the Ithaca Writers Institute?

Preference will be given to students who have been awarded Federal Work Study.
