The Recreation and Leisure Studies Department is offering the UNDERSTANDING DISABILITY course (RLS 12500) during Summer session.

This is a great opportunity to get your ICC Diversity elective covered! Take one of the most sought after courses at Ithaca College and learn about a wide spectrum of intellectual, physical, and emotional impairments highlighting autism spectrum disorder. Other topics include self-advocacy, historical and current barriers, family perspectives and current trends in educational and community services for people with disabilities. Coursework includes interactive speakers and relevant and relatable assignments that are important in today’s world. Co-taught by Joanie Groome, M.S. and Jessie Kanowitz, CTRS, M.A., BCBA, LBA. Joanie has 25 years of teaching experience and has worked over 30 years at the Youth Bureau providing recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Jessie has been teaching in the RLS Department at IC since 2016 and runs Blue Sky Center for Learning, an autism center in downtown Ithaca. We look forward to having you in class this summer!
