Amending the ICC: Proposal review and faculty advisory vote

By Brooks Miner, April 15, 2021

On April 6, the Provost’s Task Force on ICC Revision submitted a revised proposal to amend the ICC program to the Committee on College-wide Requirements (CCR), which oversees the ICC program. CCR has elected to share this proposal with the college community and to conduct an advisory vote among faculty regarding the proposed changes.

The proposal can be accessed at the webpage of the Provost’s Task Force on ICC Revision, along with a list of Frequently Asked Questions. Further questions about the proposal, and about the process of changing the ICC program, may be submitted to CCR co-chairs at iccrevision@ithaca.edu.

The proposal to amend the ICC contains six substantial changes to the ICC program, which would take effect for incoming first-year students in the Fall of 2022. Upon receiving the first draft of the proposal on Nov. 6, 2020, CCR requested feedback from each school's curriculum committee, Student Governance Council (SGC), Academic Advising Center, Ithaca Seminar Steering Committee, Dean’s Offices, and Faculty Council. CCR collated all feedback received and provided it, along with CCR’s own comments, to the Task Force on ICC revision on Dec. 6, 2020. The current revised proposal includes changes made by the Task Force in response to that feedback.

CCR will conduct a faculty advisory vote on the proposed revisions at the end of this month. The advisory vote will be conducted online from Thursday, April 22nd until Friday, April 30th. Each faculty member will indicate whether or not they support the proposal overall, in addition to separately indicating their support for each of the six individual changes to the ICC contained in the proposal.

Following the faculty advisory vote, CCR will submit the proposal itself, along with the results of the advisory vote, to the college's Academic Policies Committee (APC).
