Title: The Chinese Lunar Sample Return Mission Chang’e 5
Abstract: China’s Chang’e 5 (CE5) is one of four active spacecraft China has on the lunar surface at the moment. The other three are the CE3 lander, which arrived in 2013, and CE4 lander and Yutu 2 rover, which landed together on the far side of the moon in 2019. CE5 is the Chinese National Space Administration’s (CNSA) most complicated effort so far. Although its launch got delayed several times due to technical problems, CE5 successfully returned samples from the Moon in December 2020. The sample site of CE5 located in a volcanic complex region, Mons Rümker. The science team hopes to get a younger lunar sample than before. This talk will also present a Chinese planetary scientist's view of working for CNSA and NASA.
