Summer Institute for Faculty: IDEAL Course Design in Canvas May 24-28 -Register by April 30

By Colette Matisco, April 27, 2021

This year’s Summer Institute for faculty will focus on course design in Canvas, our new learning management system. A main theme will be Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable, Accessible Learning (IDEAL). The Institute will be held virtually (by Zoom) 9AM-12, May 24-28 and will include the following:

• Workshops on designing for inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.

• Canvas Basics presented by Instructure. This will cover equivalent content to the asynchronous online Growing with Canvas course and the Higher Education: First Day Ready learning path. No prior experience with Canvas is required.

• Sessions on Sakai/Canvas Comparison, Canvas Templates, Mobile Friendly Sites, and Reference Lists.

• Guided work sessions with experienced Canvas users.

Participants are welcome to attend any or all sessions. However, there may be limitations on the number of participants in the Canvas Basics sessions. If so, then priority will be given to those participating in the entire Institute.

Full participation in the Institute will result in a completed Canvas shell for one fall course and a set of strategies for enhancing inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.

With the exception of guided work sessions, all parts of the Institute will be recorded and made available.

Additional topics will be offered via asynchronous online modules that will be designed and made available through the remainder of the summer.

Please register here for the Institute by 5PM April 30.

The Summer Institute is a collaboration of the Center for Faculty Excellence, Learning and Innovative Technologies, Library, Student Accessibility Services, and Instructure.
