In case you missed it, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently lifted the temporary pause of the J&J vaccine distribution on Friday, April 23. Following a review of all available data, the CDC and FDA approved the resumption of J&J vaccine distribution stating that the vaccine’s benefits far outweigh the potential risks of the extremely rare adverse reactions related to low platelet counts.

For three weeks after receiving the J&J vaccine, you should monitor your health for potential symptoms of a blood clot with low platelets. Seek immediate emergency medical care if you develop one or more of these symptoms:

·      Severe or persistent headaches or blurred vision

·      Shortness of breath

·      Chest pain

·      Swelling in legs

·      Persistent abdominal pain

·      Easy bruising or tiny blood spots under the skin beyond the injection site

Please note that Ithaca College is not able to provide transportation to this event. TCAT operates loops allowing for access from campus to the mall via the Ithaca Commons and will provide free transportation with proof of vaccine appointment. Visit this link for more information on TCAT schedule.

Don’t forget to submit documentation of your vaccine to Ithaca College. For students, that means emailing a picture of your vaccination card to healthcenter@ithaca.edu. For faculty and staff, you should complete the Office of Human Resources form at the following link.
