Assistant Professor, Praneeta Mudaliar, organized, moderated, and participated in a panel titled, “How Inequalities Make and Remake Urban Spaces?” for the Urban Commons Virtual Conference at the International Association for the Study for the Commons (IASC), May 6-8.
Praneeta, along with fellow panelists, Prakash Kashwan, Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut, and Linda Estelí Méndez-Barrientos incoming Assistant Professor at the University of Denver discussed the reimagining of urban spaces that do not fit into the traditional notions of the commons. Praneeta argued for a need to examine how the very process of making the urban commons can also lead to its degradation and destruction, which then differently impacts the urban rich and the urban poor.
