An Important Message Regarding the Ithacan

By Danae Lowman, June 17, 2021

Michael Serino, advisor to The Ithacan, retires after 31 years at Ithaca College

After 26 years at the helm of The Ithacan (and 31 years at the college), Michael Serino has retired.

Under his stewardship, The Ithacan has become not just a "good" college newspaper, but, rather, arguably the best overall campus newspaper in the United States, regularly competing with, and beating, newspapers at big universities with successful journalism programs like Columbia, Northwestern, and Syracuse.

There is no way that we can thank him for everything he's done for our students, The Park School, and Ithaca College, but we'd like to try. To that end, over the next few months we will be having two events to celebrate Michael's tenure at IC. The first will be a campus event for the Ithaca Community, and the second will be an alumni event in New York City. Details will be forthcoming.

Michael has had a profound impact on Ithaca College, the Park School, and the students who have worked at The Ithacan- an impact that is impossible to overstate.

We have been extraordinarily fortunate to have him lead the paper for the past quarter century and he will be sorely missed. Even so, we celebrate not only his career, but his upcoming chance to relax. I can't think of anyone more deserving.
