An invitation to kick off the new academic year with ice cream and fellowship

By Jaimie Voorhees, August 10, 2021

Dear Ithaca College Faculty and Staff,

As we step forward once more, to reengage with one another at the launch of a fresh and vibrant academic year at Ithaca College, I invite you to join me and the members of the college’s senior leadership team to gather in fellowship at our annual ice cream social by the Dillingham fountains on Tuesday, August 17, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

This is a time to celebrate the excitement of new beginnings and growth, as we get ready to welcome to campus our first-year and transfer students along with our returning students, and a moment for us to pause and affirm the strength of our community and our vision to be a global destination for bold thinkers.

On a personal note, I sincerely welcome the opportunity to spend relaxed and casual time with you, as I transition out of my role as president. For the past four years, I have treasured this tradition of opening the year with a moment of fun and fellowship—a tradition started in 2017 by the Presidential Transition Team as a way for me to get to know this amazing community and a tradition that I have continued and that I cherish.

I hope to see you next week and I look forward to serving our beloved college for the remainder of the calendar year as senior advisor to our board of trustees and to Provost and Executive Vice President Cornish, who will become interim president on Aug. 30.

All my best,

Shirley M. Collado
President
