Build Your Canvas Course

It is exciting to hear that many faculty members are working in Canvas and are beginning to build out Fall 2021 courses.  Some faculty members have asked the question, “Where can I find my Sakai Migrated courses from the 2020-2021 academic year?”  Here are three simple steps to locating all your Canvas courses, including those migrated from Sakai.

  1. Log in to Canvas through apps.ithaca.edu or by going to canvas.ithaca.edu
  2. Click on the Courses button on the Canvas navigation, the icon that looks like a book in the left sidebar
  3. In the pop-out drawer, click All Courses in the bottom

The Sakai migrated courses will be in the "Past Enrollments" section at the bottom of the All-Courses page. The course will be identified by the Sakai Migrated Term. Make sure to look through each of the tools (Files, Assignments, Discussions, Pages, Syllabus, etc.) for your migrated course content.

If you have questions about the transition from Sakai to Canvas you can explore the resources in Module 3 in the Canvas Resources @ IC course.

Faculty training sessions in Canvas

Instructure led training

Faculty can view guided video tutorials from the recorded training sessions facilitated by Instructure (the company that created Canvas). The four sessions are available in Kaltura Media. There will be several more training sessions led by Instructure in September. Please watch the Intercom for announcements.

Canvas Support Open Hours

The staff from Learning & Innovative Technologies (L&IT) and the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), along with campus partners, will be holding both remote and in-person support hours the afternoons of August 17, 19, and 20. Details and pre-registration information are posted in the Intercom.

Canvas Workshops

Marilyn Dispensa, Senior Instructional Designer, with the Center for Faculty Excellence will host Canvas workshops the week of August 16-20.  Marilyn will cover using the IC Canvas Blueprint to design your Canvas course. She will also go through building a basic and simple Canvas site. Details and pre-registration information are posted in the Intercom

If you have not already done so, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the support resources and start building your Fall Canvas courses. Support resources include online materials, in-person training, and consultation opportunities. For a complete list of resources, please visit Ithaca College’s dedicated Canvas space for faculty Canvas Resources @ IC.

We look forward to Canvas helping to support the creation of rich learning experiences for students, coupled with efficiencies and blended learning tools for our outstanding faculty here at Ithaca College.

Again, thank you for your hard work.

Sincerely,

The LMS Implementation Team
