David J. Hajjar, assistant professor in the speech -language pathology and audiology department recently published an original research study in the journal Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences and Disorders with co-authors Janice Elich-Monroe Ph.D., CTRS and Susan Durnford M.S., CCC-SLP.  The article is titled: Interprofessional education and practice: Perspectives from students in speech-language pathology and recreational therapy

Students from recreation and leisure studies and SLPA, participated in a series of in-person and online focus groups to share their experiences about interprofessional practice (IPP) in the Center for Life Skills (CLS) program. The students discussed the benefits of IPP as well as challenges related to communication, planning, and working collaboratively on shared goals. Adult participants in the CLS program receive physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy and speech therapy to support their lifelong recovery from stroke or other acquired conditions which may impact communication, physical/motor abilities, and sensory/perceptual skills.
