The LMS Implementation Team is preparing to have our vendor, K16, run the third and final wave of bulk course migrations from Sakai to Canvas. Faculty who would like to request 1 or 2 additional courses migrated on your behalf can submit the Last Call for Course Migration Form. Please complete the form no later than September 25, 2021. Please review the considerations listed below before submitting your request.
Reviewing your Migrated Course Content
What you should see:
- The content from your academic courses in Sakai from Fall 2020 – Summer 2021 has been migrated to Canvas on your behalf. These can be found in the Unpublished Courses on your Canvas Dashboard. If you see any errors, please email the IT Service Desk (servicedesk@ithaca.edu).
- Only the course content is included - no student data (i.e.: assignments, grades, feedback, discussion posts/replies). If you would like to save any student information you will need to download them on your own. IT has a helpful article, “How to Retain Content” from Sakai, in the IT TeamDynamix Knowledge Base.
- The Migration Task Group prepared documentation for using the migrated content in your new Fall 2021 Canvas courses. The documentation can be found in the Canvas Resources @ IC course site: Sakai to Canvas Transition
Considerations for Additional Course Migration
Requesting additional course(s) to be migrated:
- Review what has already been migrated on your behalf (academic courses from Fall 2020 – Summer 2021).
- Before September 25th submit the Last Call for Course Migration Form with any special requests for 1 or 2 additional academic courses to be part of the final wave of migrations to be completed in October. If you have more than one course that you would like to request please prioritize listing your first choice and a possible second choice.
- We have a limited number of additional courses we can migrate on your behalf; therefore, we cannot guarantee all requests will be granted. Priority will be given to academic courses. We are not able to include project sites.
- Instructors can perform a manual migration from Sakai to Canvas. The Migration Task Group prepared documentation for steps to perform a manual migration. The documentation can be found in the Canvas Resources @ IC course site: Sakai to Canvas Manual Migration
If you have any questions regarding course migrations and special requests, please contact Jenna Linskens, Director Learning & Innovative Technologies (jlinskens@ithaca.edu).
