Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition Chaya Czernowin to give presentations open to the College Community

Chaya Czernowin (Walter Bigelow Rosen Professor at Harvard University) is the 2021-22 Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition at the Ithaca College School of Music. She will be giving two presentations open to the college community:

Tuesday, 14 September  

5.00 -7.00 Iger Lecture Hall (Whalen 2105): Lecture to a general music audience followed by discussion  

Wednesday, 15 September  

6.00 – 8.00 Hockett Recital Hall: Screening of the opera Heart Chamber with a brief introduction by the composer and followed by a Q&A with the audience

Chaya Czernowin, the 2021-22 Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition at Ithaca College School of Music, is a composer of operas, orchestral and chamber works with and without electronics, which have been performed worldwide. She is the Walter Bigelow Rosen Professor of Music at Harvard University and was a Professor for Composition at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna Austria and the University of California San Diego. The Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition is a position awarded annually to a major figure in music composition today. The Visiting Professors visit Ithaca College during the course of the academic year to deliver lectures on issues relevant to contemporary composition as well as on their own creative work. In addition, during their time on campus, they hold private lessons with the School of Music's composition majors.
