Ithaca College School of Music is pleased to announce a full line-up of guest artists for their beloved endowed concert series, and to welcome back live audiences for the 2021-2022 season.
The season will kick off with a performance from their newest series, the Angela and William Haines Young Concert Artists Residency, which - each semester - will feature one recent winner of the Young Concert Artists Competition in New York City. Bass-baritone William Socolof will be the featured residency artist for the fall semester, performing a concert on Wednesday, September 22 at 8:15 p.m in Ford Hall.
The season continues in the spring semester with the Robert G. Boehmler Community Foundation Series. ArcoMusical, a world music ensemble that reimagines the Afro-Brazilian berimbau through unique and powerful chamber music, will perform on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall, and hold a number of classes and workshops with students throughout their residency.
The long-running Rachel S. Thaler Concert Pianist Series will welcome “one of the Grandes Dames of piano playing” (Frankfurter Allgemeine), Janina Fialkowska, for a concert on Wednesday, February 14, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall. An international concert pianist for over 40 years, Ms. Fialkowska has been praised for her musical integrity and refreshing natural approach, and was dubbed by Arthur Rubinstein a “born Chopin interpreter”, laying the foundation for her lifelong identification with this composer.
Violinist Pamela Frank, joined by pianist Stephen Prutsman, will give a concert on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 8:15 p.m in Ford Hall, presented by the Louis K. Thaler Concert Violinist Series. As part of her residency, Ms. Frank will hold a student session of her newest venture, which uses expertise from music and physical therapy for injury prevention and treatment of musicians.
The spring semester will also see the return of the Harlem Quartet, this time as guests of the Shirley and Chas Hockett Chamber Music Series. Harlem Quartet was founded in 2006 by the Sphinx Organization, a national nonprofit dedicated to building diversity in classical music and providing access to music education in underserved communities. Their performance will be on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. in Ford Hall.
Wrapping up the season will be the Spring presentation of the Haines Young Concert Artists Residency, double bassist Xavier Foley. Known for communicating his virtuosity and passion for music on the double bass, which is rarely presented as a solo instrument, Mr. Foley will give a concert on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 8:15 p.m.in Ford Hall.
At this time we are reworking our plans for the Manley and Doriseve Thaler Vocal Concert Series due to Covid-19 protocols. Please stay tuned for an announcement about this year’s event.
