Guest Speaker Professor Phillip Milner Ph.D. of Cornell University will be joining us on Tuesday, October 12th at 12:10 pm will present:

Simplifying Synthesis at the Interface of Organic and Materials Chemistry

Confining organic molecules to the solid state offers myriad potential opportunities to control their reactivity and properties, with applications ranging from catalysis to energy storage to chemical separations. Here, we will discuss how insoluble polymeric materials, such as metal-organic frameworks and (porous) polymer networks, be used to engineer new materials of interest in synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry. In addition, we will discuss strategies to develop new heterogeneous materials for electrochemical energy storage and electrocatalysis. Our research in solid-state organic chemistry aims to bring a new perspective to the field of materials synthesis and design.
