David Prunty recently won an award from CSPA-NYS (College Student Personnel Association - New York State) recognizing his Eminence in Mentorship. This award is presented to a professional with at least 5 years of experience in the field of higher education who has made meritorious and sustained contributions to the personal, scholastic, or professional development of undergraduate students, graduate students, and/or professionals in the field. The nominator must be a member of the organization.
Dave was nominated by Doreen Hettich-Atkins who is a past president of the organization.
In her nomination Doreen states:
“The one constant in Dave’s career has always been his ability to keep students in the forefront in all of his work. He has also served as an exemplary mentor to many of the staff he has supervised and worked with throughout his time at Ithaca College.
In teaching, Dave ensures that students are able to gain hands-on experiences serving as integral members of the planning teams for activities such as commencement, convocation, family weekend, alumni weekend, and other major campus events. Many students would credit their careers in event management to the hands-on teaching style and mentorship they gained through working with Dave or through their internships in the Campus Event Services office which he supervises.
In everything he does on campus Dave ensures that student voices are heard, that student leadership is brought to the forefront, and that the staff he supervises have the ability and support to grow and develop in their roles as well.”
Congratulations Dave – I know that the many students and staff you have mentored through your career would be in full agreement that you more than deserve this accolade.
