Dr. Ellyn Sellers-Selin has recently notified me of her intention to step down from her position as Medical Director and leave Ithaca College at the end of February 2022. She has made this difficult decision so she can spend more quality time with her family, including her two school age sons. As you know, Ellyn has provided exceptional leadership to Ithaca College during the Covid pandemic. During that time, she served not only as the Medical Director for Hammond Health Center but also provided leadership for the college-wide planning necessary to navigate the pandemic. This included Ellyn's active participation in the Health and Safety Advisory Group and Public Health Task Force. There is no way to accurately share the amount of time Ellyn has dedicated to making sure that our Ithaca College students and employees have felt safe and medically supported during the pandemic. She has monitored and acted upon changing guidance and worked closely with the Tompkins County Health Department.
Ellyn joined Ithaca College as a physician in Hammond Health Center 10 years ago because of her love for working with college students. Her care and compassion have helped many of our students who were sick and away from home for the first time. Our entire community will miss her presence in the Health Center.
Ellyn has expressed to me that she is appreciative of the Ithaca College community. She has been so impressed with the many colleagues around campus that she has had the pleasure of working with during the pandemic and beyond. She is especially thankful for the hard-working staff at the Hammond Health Center who are her dear friends and colleagues.
We are grateful that Ellyn has provided significant advance notice of her plans, so we have time to work with her to determine a plan to cover the Medical Director position upon her departure. We will share an update as soon as the plan for coverage is confirmed. In addition, we want to gather to recognize the incredible contributions Ellyn has made to Ithaca College and will be in touch soon with information regarding a celebration. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out and wish her well. I know she would appreciate it.
