Join the Communicating with Stakeholders class to work with WCNY TV / FM

Are you interested in learning more about public broadcasting and how it serves its communities?  Do you want to gain skills and confidence in strategic planning and communicating with key stakeholders and executives?  Would you like to shape the future programming of TV and radio channels ?  We've got a course for you.

This spring, the Communicating with Stakeholders course (CMD 31100) will be working with the leaders of WCNY, the public broadcasting TV and radio channels based in Syracuse serving over 1.8 million people in upstate New York, to develop a new strategic plan.  We will be using key concepts of the course in identifying major community stakeholders, soliciting their input, understanding regulatory requirements, and developing strategic communication plans that can shape the future programming of their 4 TV channels and 4 radio channels. In addition to this project, we'll be hosting professionals (most of them IC alumni) in employee communications, government and community relations, investor relations, reputation and crisis management, corporate social responsibility, and nonprofit and association outreach and fundraising to learn about career opportunities and trends in these areas.

Although the course has some prerequisites (STCM 21100 or STCM 23200 or any 200-level course in FINA, SMGT, MGMT, or ACCT), the instructor, Dr. Diane Gayeski, is willing to consider waiving or substituting them for students who are particularly interested in this one-time-only project with WCNY.  The course will meet Tues/Thurs at 1:10; contact Dr. Gayeski at gayeski@ithaca.edu if you're interested in learning more.
