December Canvas Updates for Instructors

By Jenna Linskens, December 6, 2021

Faculty members are asked to read through the "December Canvas Updates" email for more detailed information on the items listed below.

The Canvas Implementation Team has put together a few resources and reminders to help faculty navigate a few things as you wrap up Fall 2021 and our first semester of using Canvas. We invite you to explore several Canvas Course Site Examples during the week of Dec 6-10, and join a live stream of the "Best o the Best: A Tour of Canvas Courses - Webinar" presented by NERCOMP and Canvas. Lastly, we have a reminder regarding Sakai and preparing for Spring 2022.

Wrapping up Fall 2021 in Canvas

As you finish your Fall 2021 courses and prepare to post final grades, the following Canvas resources may be useful to you:

Giving Exams in Canvas

Reviewing and Posting Final Grades

IC Canvas Course Site Examples

Throughout the week of December 6-10, we invite faculty members to join us in Ithaca College's very first Canvas Course Site Examples! These courses will be open all week to allow visitors to explore on their own time and gain new ideas for building their own Canvas courses from Ithaca College peers.

The week kicked off with the “Best of the Best: A Tour of Canvas Courses - Webinar” presented by NERCOMP and Canvas on Monday, December 6. The session was recorded and we have made it available to all IC faculty. You can view the recording by clicking on the link on the IC Canvas Course Site Examples page

From the IC Canvas Course Examples site, you can

  • View video tours of courses
  • Find brief highlights and tips for every course
  • Explore course sites to get ideas

To participate in the IC Canvas Course Examples site visit this Canvas page.

Looking Ahead

Sunsetting Sakai

  • As a reminder, access to Sakai will end on February 1, 2022. Faculty members can continue to download resources and view old course sites through the end of January.
  • We also ask you to help us with reminding students if they need any materials from Sakai they should save them to their MS OneDrive, computer, or a thumb drive.
  • Once access to Sakai is turned off, only the LMS Administrators will be able to access the system on a strictly limited basis. More information on how to submit a Sakai file request will be shared in January.

Canvas Workshops and Drop-In Hours

  • In a few weeks, the Canvas Implementation Team will announce January dates and times for Canvas Workshops and Support Drop-in Sessions. We are also excited to announce a new Canvas support service from the Learning & Innovative Technologies team that will be available in January.

On behalf of the Canvas Implementation Team, wishing you Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you at the Canvas events throughout the next few weeks.
