Twelve athletic training students (8 seniors, 3 juniors, 1 sophomore), along with 3 AT faculty members, traveled to Mashantucket, CT to attend the 74th Annual Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA) Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposium from January 6-10, 2022. EATA is the regional professional association for athletic trainers, covering the northeast - NY, PA, CT, MA, VT, ME, DE, NH, RI, & NJ.
Senior AT students, Samantha Ruiz, Kiana Telano, Journye MacDonald, were awarded first place for the undergraduate research category. Samm presented their research, “The impact of COVID-19 athletics modifications on the psychological well-being of high school and collegiate athletes” on Friday evening of the EATA conference. Faculty members, Patrick & Jennifer McKeon, advised the students on this research.
Senior AT students, Megan O’Reilly & Caroline Davenport, were awarded scholarships by the NY State Athletic Trainers’ Association. They were recognized at the NY state meeting during the EATA conference.
Journye MacDonald represents IC as a student delegate and attended several meetings with many leaders across the profession.
Athletic training faculty members, Todd Lazenby, Jennifer McKeon, & Patrick McKeon also attended the conference in leadership positions. Todd is the chair of EATA Scholarship Committee, Jennifer is the chair of the Board of Certification Compliance Committee for the EATA, and Patrick served as a moderator for many sessions as a member of the Conference Committee.
