Nominations Open for 14th Annual “Izzy Award” for Independent Media

With the Izzy Award set to celebrate its 14th year, award nominations are now open for work produced in the calendar year 2021.

The annual honor for outstanding achievement in independent media — named after legendary journalist I. F. “Izzy” Stone — is presented by the Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM) at Ithaca College.

This year’s Izzy Award will be given for work published or broadcast in 2021 by either an independent media outlet or an individual journalist or producer who publishes or broadcasts through their own site or an independent outlet.

Note: Work produced by a nonprofit/independent journalism organization but published or broadcast by a mainstream, commercial or conglomerated media outlet is not eligible. Work produced by a nonprofit/independent journalism organization and published or broadcast by an independent, non-commercial, non-conglomerated media outlet is eligible.

Journalists, academics and the public at large may submit nominations by the midnight ET deadline on Tuesday, February 2, 2022. The winner will be announced early next spring, with an award ceremony to follow in April 2022.

Nominations should be submitted with a statement of 250 words or less, explaining why the entry is worthy of consideration. Include supporting web links (no more than four) and/or attached materials. Send submissions to Raza Rumi, director of the PCIM, at pcim@ithaca.edu.
