FLEFF Announces Partnership with Conversations Across Screen Cultures for 25th Anniversary Edition

By Rachel Schaff, February 3, 2022

Conversations Across Screen Cultures will partner with the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) to mount a conversation with Pavitra Sundar, film and media scholar.

Conversations Across Screen Cultures

Conversations Across Screen Cultures, an online initiative featuring live interviews and discussions with film and media scholars, media artists, and programmers in the Central New York region, will partner with the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) to mount a conversation between Leah Shafer (Hobart and William Smith College) and Pavitra Sundar (Hamilton College) on March 25 from 4:00-5:00 p.m.. The conversation will probe sound studies, postcolonial cinemas, and gender and sexuality studies. The event is a collaboration between FLEFF, Conversations Across Screen Cultures, and F2F: Feminist to Feminist.

Since Fall 2020, the Conversations Across Screen Cultures initiative, led by a group of faculty from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and Ithaca College, has mounted monthly conversations with screen cultures scholars in the Central New York region, a robust and vital area for both media production and scholarship. These highly interactive and engaging sessions feature a conversation with a scholar about their work, questions from the audience, and a lively after-event gathering to continue informal engagement.  The programming team includes Leah Shafer (HWS), Camilo Malagan (IC), Enrique Gonzalez Conty (IC), Harry Gu (HWS), and Patricia Zimmermann (IC)
