Sport Management students place 2nd at COSMA Case Study Cup competition

Sport Management students in the IC School of Business recently took second place in the 2022 COSMA* Case Study Cup Competition, held February 2-4 at the University of Houston. During the conference, the annual case study cup was contested. The Ithaca College Sport Management team, which participated in the undergraduate and graduate competition, consisted of students Andrew Guerra (Jr, team captain), Hudson Hassler (So), and Tyler Ruck (Jr). The team was advised by Dr. Wonyul Bae, associate professor of sport management. Dr. Wonyul Bae praised his team by noting, “The students were excited about this opportunity. They prepared, practiced, researched, and strategized for this competition. We are very proud of their hard work and dedication to make Ithaca College proud.”

The competition consisted of developing a philanthropy plan for Houston area professional teams (Texans, Astros, Rockets, and Dynamo), focused on improving an aspect of the team’s community relations in the Houston area. The group also focused on highlighting some of the leaders in sports philanthropy around the world.

In addition to the research, the group had the opportunity to present a solution to the panel about how the Houston teams could capitalize on their assets to benefit their community. The strength of the plan and overall presentation was emphasized while the group was recognized as a finalist and 2nd place overall finisher in the competition.
