The Many Parts, One Body: Sexuality, Gender, and Movement Building in the Black Church virtual symposium on February 23rd 6-8pm CST will bring together Black LGBTQ+ faith leaders, activists, scholars, and allies to discuss the vast and nuanced contributions of Black LGBTQ+ people of faith. Because the conveners believe education is the gateway to liberation, students may attend to the event at no cost.
Speakers include luminaries such as Rev. Dr. Pamela Lightsey, Rev. Dr. Delman Coates, and Rev. Carmarion D. Anderson-Harvey. Sponsors include Harvard Divinity School, Chicago Theological Seminary, University of Chicago Divinity School, and the Gilead COMPASS Initiative Faith Coordinating Center at Wake Forest School of Divinity.
The symposium will examine important quandaries including how does Black LGBTQ+ spiritual resistance serve as a site for collective liberation? And, in what ways have the stories of Black LGBTQ+ people been written out of faith-based protest movements?
